Health & Safety Policy and procedures
We aim to provide bespoke policies and procedures that are relevant to the company commissioning the work. This involves looking at a company?s operation and carrying out an audit of their existing systems. From this, we can write a policy tailored to the company and it?s operation.
Scaffold Inspection
Full site inspection of standing scaffolds, including a written report with photographs with in 24 hours of the inspection taking place.
Our inspections are thorough, not a quick visual inspection. We check all of the scaffold structure against the relevant codes of practice and guidance notes (BS EN 21811-1, TG20:08, TG4:11).
When checking a design scaffold, the inspection is carried out against the drawing(s)provided to ensure compliance.
Our inspections always look for clear evidence that safe systems of work have been followed (SG4:10) as required by the Health and Safety Executive.
Training
Since 1st January 2011, scaffolding companies and scaffolders have been required to erect tube and fitting scaffolds to TG20:08 and erect, adapt and dismantle scaffolds using the SG4:10 guidance ?Preventing Falls in Scaffolding?. Scaffolders require initial training in these systems and regular tool box talk training. We can provide this training on a group basis or on a one to one basis.
TG20:08 is based on the previous UK British Standard BS 5973:1993. Fundamentally, the principles of BS 5973 remain unchanged and there are very few changes in the day-today work of a scaffolder.
SG4 was first introduced to the scaffolding industry in 2000 (SG4:00). There have been 2 updates to it since then, SG4:05 and now SG4:10. All scaffolders should be familiar with the principles set out in the guidance.
Our training is delivered in Power Point presentation format, with diagrams and photographs for easy following by the participants. All training sessions finish with a question and answer section to give participants on opportunity to discuss or ask about any part of the new codes.
Safety harness training is delivered in a mix of power point and video presentation and practical demonstration. All participants must, at the end of the course, demonstrate to our instructor that they can put a safety harness on and adjust it correctly.
Safety Harness Inspection and Recording
The inspection of safety harnesses can be detrimental to operation activities for a company. We provide an on-site or in depot service for ease of the customer.
Our on-site service involves the inspection of one harness at a time, allowing the other operatives to carry on working. Failed harnesses are destroyed on site and removed for safe disposal by the inspector. Our inspector carries a small stock of scaffold safety harnesses with either single or double lanyards that can be immediately issued to a scaffolder should an individual harness fail inspection.
All inspections include a written record and ?Inspection Passed? tag fitted to each safety harness.
Risk and Method Statement Assistance.
All works must be planned and the risks assessed. These plans and assessments must be recorded in writing.
All companies involved in scaffolding operations will carry out their own method statements and risk assessments. However, some jobs can be complicated or may not have been carried out by a company on a previous occasion.
In these instances, ADS Ltd can offer assistance. Our design and safety staff has experience of work in most areas of scaffolding and has in-depth knowledge and experience which can assist a customer when preparing their safety documentation for a project.
We can assist in the preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statement (RAMS) using the customers own formats or ADS Ltd formats.
Pull Testing
Pull Testing

Our testers are trained, approved and regulated by the CFA.
Our testing equipment is calibrated annually and maintained to the highest standards.
All pull tests are followed up with a full written report and photographs.
Where required, we will provide our own access to the work (i.e. aluminium tower or MEWP) for preliminary testing.
Before carrying out any testing, the work is accessed and the customer issued with a full risk assessment and method statement.
Anchors and Scaffold Ties
We work closely with a leading independent supplier of general purpose and scaffold anchors and tying systems.
We offer expert advice on the type and number of anchors for a project. We can calculate the number of ties required.
