Description

Altex Engineering Ltd
Altex Engineering is a family run business, established in 1982 and is ISO9001:2008 accredited.
The company has enjoyed sustained growth and relocated to its own purpose built premises in 2000.
Based in Calne, Wiltshire, it is 18 miles south west of Swindon and has good transport links with the main motorway networks.
Altex is one of the leading sub-contract manufacturers of sheet metalwork and precision machining in the country. It has a broad customer base in a variety of market places and is an approved supplier to government agencies and several national and multi-national organisations.
In-house processes, from design, precision machining, laser cutting, punching, folding, welding, through to assembly and despatch, ensure quality and control is maintained during manufacture.
Powder coating is carried out by our sister company, Final Touch, located on the same business park and specialist finishes such as plating and anodising are sourced through our network of local, quality approved suppliers.
Continuous investment in technology, equipment and skills base, enables Altex to provide value for money, high quality products, on time, every time.

Design and Development
Technical Engineering:A highly skilled, motivated and dedicated team of engineers, combined with the latest technology in CAD/CAM and manufacturing systems, ensures Altex is able to offer customers a low cost, high value, quality solution, from the most basic of profiled blanks to large assemblies and intricately machined parts.

Design:By working closely with customers to understand their requirements, our design team can help to transform basic concepts into production reality. Customers? sketches can be converted into quality drawings or 3D models.

Altex uses SolidWorks as its main drawing and 3D modelling package. This allows the technical team to design and plan; parts, assemblies, jigs, fixtures, and all related drawings, which are all parametrically linked.

When a change is made to the design, every affected part, assembly and drawing within the product is automatically updated, therefore reducing planning lead time. Information can then be exported in a number of formats and imported directly into the relevant machine programming systems.

The extra tools in this software allow us to produce photo realistic renderings, giving a true representation of the finished product. This gives us the ability to provide customers with a clearer view of their product, enabling them to decide whether any changes are required, thus potentially reducing initial prototype costs.

Precision Machining
Altex has a comprehensive range of high precision machines, programmed and controlled by the latest 3d CAD/CAM packages.
We can offer high quality turned items, from prototypes through to mass production, in a range of engineering materials.
Investment in the latest software, OneCNC, has greatly enhanced the capabilities of our machine shop, enabling us to produce almost any geometry with ease.
Intricate and complex components are produced using a combination of CNC and manual mills to suit customer requirements. We can offer mould and tool manufacture as well as engraving on any component.

Sheet Metal Fabrication
Sheet Metal Fabrication: Altex employs the latest precision laser and punch technology, producing high quality blanks which move through forming, inserting and welding, enabling us to produce a low cost, high quality product.
With two major recent investments in equipment which will improve efficiency, reduce running costs and reduce energy consumption:
Investment in our own nitrogen generating plant has removed the need for regular deliveries of gas and has proved to be very cost effective. A major change to our engineering process has taken place with the introduction of a new, state-of-the-art, Salvagnini L1Xe laser - the first of its kind in the UK!

Finishing
Altex is able to provide a range of different finishes to suit differing customer requirements, including specialist finishes, types of plating (zinc, chrome), are provided through our quality approved supply chain.

Powder coat and wet paint finishes are carried out by our sister company Final Touch, located minutes away on the same business park.
Pre-treatment by Vixen Jet Wash iron phosphate and degreasing machine. Drying oven. Off line powder coating with a "personal touch". Two box ovens - dims 3.3 x 2.2 x 2.3 metres.

Salvagnini Laser
We have recently invested in a new state of the art Salvagnini Laser and Nitrogen plant which enables us to be more efficient and economical and reduces our carbon footprint by 75%. It also increases our capability to cut a wider range of materials, including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, galvanised, brass and copper.
Fibre optic power source and beam transmission system - First of its kind in the UK!! 75% Reduction in energy consumption - more environmentally friendly More efficient and economical Worktable XY 3048mm x 1524mm Aluminium - 0.5 - 8mm Mild Steel - 0.5 - 18mm Stainless steel - 0.5 - 10mm Copper - 0.5 - 5mm Brass - 0.5 -5mm In house Nitrogen plant
